32 A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF FREDERICK MILITARY ACADEMY. WHEREAS, Frederick Military Academy was founded by Portsmouth Philanthropist Fred W. Beazley, a Portsmouth native, and opened its doors on September 9, 1958 with an enrollment of 265 Cadets; and WHEREAS, the Academy is currently situated on a 22 acre campus off Portsmouth Boulevard with an enrollment of 205 students; and WHEREAS, sixty-five per cent of the students are from the Tidewater area and ninety per cent go on to receive higher education with many students accepted into our National Service Academys with anticipation of military careers; and WHEREAS, the Academy employs ninety persons with a payroll exceeding $1/250,000 annually, and the school has been an asset economically, morally and educationally for the City of Portsmouth and its citizens; and WHEREAS, this fine school has lived up %o its motto: "To Provide Quality Education For Worthy Young People And Prepare Them For The Future"; and WHEREAS, the school represents knowledge, truth, and valor to the City of Portsmouth and the entire Tidewater Area; and WHEREAS, its supporting Foundation has financial restraints dictate the closing of Academy; and indicated that Frederick Military WHEREAS, a group of its supporters have commenced a campaign to assure the continued existence of Frederick Military Academy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, that it announces its support for the continued operation of Frederick Military Academy and requests the assistance of its citizens and those of the entire Tidewater Area to support the effort of those persons working to assure the continual operation of Prederick Military Academy.
