32 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF FREDERICK MILITARY ACADEMY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Frederick Military Academy was founded by <br />Portsmouth Philanthropist Fred W. Beazley, a Portsmouth <br />native, and opened its doors on September 9, 1958 with an <br />enrollment of 265 Cadets; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Academy is currently situated on a 22 acre <br />campus off Portsmouth Boulevard with an enrollment of 205 <br />students; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, sixty-five per cent of the students are from <br />the Tidewater area and ninety per cent go on to receive <br />higher education with many students accepted into our National <br />Service Academys with anticipation of military careers; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Academy employs ninety persons with a <br />payroll exceeding $1/250,000 annually, and the school has <br />been an asset economically, morally and educationally for <br />the City of Portsmouth and its citizens; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this fine school has lived up %o its motto: <br /> "To Provide Quality Education For Worthy Young People And <br />Prepare Them For The Future"; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the school represents knowledge, truth, and <br />valor to the City of Portsmouth and the entire Tidewater <br />Area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, its supporting Foundation has <br />financial restraints dictate the closing of <br />Academy; and <br /> <br />indicated that <br />Frederick Military <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a group of its supporters have commenced a <br />campaign to assure the continued existence of Frederick <br />Military Academy. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, that it announces its support for the <br />continued operation of Frederick Military Academy and requests <br />the assistance of its citizens and those of the entire <br />Tidewater Area to support the effort of those persons working <br />to assure the continual operation of Prederick Military <br />Academy. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held April 23, 1985. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
