AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 2-11 (a), 2-12 (a), (b), <br />AND (f) AND SECTION 2-13 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO SICK LEAVE, <br />ANNUAL LEAVE AND LEGAL HOLIDAYS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that Sections 2-11 (a), 2-12 (a), (b), and (f), and <br />Section 2-13 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />1973, be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 2-11. Sick Leave. <br /> <br />(a) There shall be granted to each full time regular <br />officer and employee sick leave with pay at the rate of one <br />(1) day of sick leave for each continuous calendar month of <br />employment. The sick leave shall be accumulative without <br />limitation. The City Manager or head of the division super- <br />vising the employee shall, when he deems it advisable, require <br />a certificate from a reputable physician as evidence of illness <br />before compensation for a sick leave period is allowed, and <br />the City Manager in his discretion may also require an examination <br />by a reputable physician selected by him, whose decision as to <br />the illness of the officer or employee shall be taken as final <br />by the City Manager. <br /> <br /> Section 3-12. Annual Leave. <br /> (a) There shall be granted to each officer and employee <br /> of the City annual leave at the rate of'one (1) day annual leave <br /> for each continuous calendar month of employment. <br /> <br /> (b) In addition to the annual leave benefits provided in <br /> subsection (a) above, each officer and employee who shall have <br /> completed the specified number of calendar years of continuous <br /> employment shall be entitled to additional annual leave to be <br /> credited on their anniversary dates, in accordance with <br /> the following schedule: <br /> <br />.YEARS OF EMPLOYMENT <br /> <br />(ANNIVERSARy DATES) <br /> <br />BONUS DAYS PER YEAR <br /> <br />thru 4 years 2 <br />thru 9 years 3 <br />10 thru 14 years 5 <br />15 thru 19 years 7 <br />20 years and over 9 <br /> <br />(f) The amount of annual leave <br /> <br />to which any officer or em- <br /> <br />ployee is granted may be accumulated and carried over from year <br />to year; provided, however, that all accumulated unused annual <br />leave in excess of forty-two (42) days of annual leave entitlement <br />remaining in the leave account of the officer or employee as of <br />December 31 of each year shall be automatically cancelled at the <br />expiration of such year. <br /> <br /> <br />
