AN ORDINANCE TO ~'~ND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY A~ENDING SECTION 23-1.1 THEREOF, PERTAINING <br />TO PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS OF MOTOR VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC LAWS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that Section 23-1.1 of the.Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 23-1.1. Penalties for violations of motor vehicle <br /> and traffic laws of this Chapter. <br /> <br /> Unless otherwise stated, a violation of any of the pro- <br />visions of this Chapter shall constitute a traffic infraction <br />punishable by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars <br />($100.00) ~ <br /> <br /> There is hereby established the Portsmouth Driver <br />Improvement Program to be directed by the Portsmouth General <br />District Court in conjunction with the Southeastern Virginia <br />Alcohol Safety Action Program. In lieu of or in addition to <br />the penalties prescribed, any person found guilty of violation <br />of any of the provisions of this Chapter may be required by <br />the Portsmouth General District Court to attend the Portsmouth <br />Driver Improvement Program which shall consist of ten (10) <br />hours of instruction to be provided by sworn police officers <br />or certified defensive driver instructors. The fee for such <br />instructions shall be thirty-five dollars [$35.00) per <br />referral. <br /> <br /> This ordinance shall take effect from the date of its <br />adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the Cit57 of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held February 12, 1985. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
