AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 20-34, 20-52.1 (b), 20- <br />63 (a) AND 20-72 OF CHAPTER 20, PERTAINING TO BUSINESS <br />LICENSES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Sections 20-34, 20-52.1 (bi, 20-63 (a) and <br />20-72 of Chapter 20 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virglnla, 1973, be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 20-34. Applicability of State rules, regulations. <br /> As %o all questions in regard to the duty and conduct of <br />officers of the City in collecting and enforcing the taxes <br />herein imposed, and in regard to questions of construction, <br />and for definitions of terms used in this Chapter, and the <br />rules and regulations applicable to putting the same in <br />operation, reference ms hereby made to Title 58.1, Code of <br />Virginia, 1950, as amended, pertaining to the assessment, <br />levying and collection of taxes for the current year, or to <br />so much thereof as is applicable to this Chapter and is not <br />consistent with it and the general ordinances of the City; <br />and for the conduct and guidance of the officers of the City <br />and other parties affected by this Chapter and for fixing <br />their powers, riqhts, duties and obligations,, the provisions <br />of said laws, so far as applicable, are hereby adopted, <br />without being specifically herein auoted. <br /> <br /> Section 20-52.1. Peddlers and door-to-door salesmen. <br /> (b) A ~eddler is defined as any person who carries from <br /> ~iace to DIaSe any goods, wares, food or merchandise ~urchased <br /> ~or resale and offers to sell, or actually sells and delivers, <br /> the same at retail. The definition of "~eddler" as ~rovided <br /> in Section 58.1-3717 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, <br /> is further adopted herein and incorporated by reference. <br /> <br />Section 20-63. Carnivals, circuses and trained animal shows. <br /> <br /> (a) CARNIVALS. Every person who exhibits performances <br />in a carnival as defined in ¢58.1-3728 of the Code of Virginia, <br />1950, as amended, in the City, shall pay a license tax of one <br />hundred eighty dcllars ($180.) Der day that such carnival ex- <br />hibits in the City. <br /> <br /> <br />
