vehicle which is engaged in either escorting, or towing <br />overdimensional materials, equipment, boats, or <br />manufactured housing units by authority of a highway <br />hauling permit issued pursuant to Section 46.1-343 of <br />the Code of Virginia. Such lights shall be mounted on <br />the tops of the escort and tow vehicles and on the upper <br />rear end of the overdimensional vehicle or load for <br />maximum visibility, front and rear. <br /> <br /> (a) A member of any fire department, volunteer <br />fire company or volunteer rescue squad may equip one <br />-vehicle owned by the member with not more than two (2) <br />flashing or steady-burning red or red and white lights <br />of a type approved by the Superintendent, for use by <br />members only in answering emergency calls. <br /> <br /> (b) Dealers or businesses engaged in the sale of <br />fire, rescue or police vehicles or ambulances may, for <br />demonstration purposes, equip such vehicles with colored <br />warning lights. <br /> <br /> Any person violating any of the provisions of this <br />section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. <br /> <br /> Unless such lighting device is both covered and not <br />illuminated, no motor vehicle which is equipped with any <br />lighting device other than lamps required or permitted <br />in this article or required or approved by the <br />superintendent or required by the Federal Department of <br />Transportation shall be operated on any highway in the <br />City. Nothing in this paragraph shall be construed to <br />permit any vehicle not otherwise authorized, to be <br />equipped with colored emergency lights, whether blinking <br />or steady-burning. <br /> <br />Section 23-389. Signs on windshields, etc. <br /> <br /> (a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, <br />it shall be unlwful for any person to operate any motor <br />vehicle upon a highway with any sign, poster or other <br />nontransparent material upon the front windshield, front <br />or rear side windows, or rear windows of such motor <br />vehicle other than a certificate or other paper required <br />to be placed by law or which may be permitted by the <br />superintendent. The size and placement location of <br />stickers or decals used by the city in lieu of license <br />plates shall be in compliance with regulations <br />promulgated by the Superintendent; at the option of the <br />motor vehicle's owner, such stickers shall be affixed <br />either at the upper edge of the center of the windshield <br />or at some other place which may be designated by the <br />Superintendent. <br /> <br /> <br />
