AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 40-102 (B) BY ADDING <br />THERETO A NEW SUBSECTION DESIGNATED 4.1r AND BY A~.~NDING <br />SUBSECTION 10 PERTAINING TO HISTORIC DISTRICT BUILDING <br />REGULATIONS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 40-102 (B) be amended by adding thereto <br />subsection 4.1, such subsection to read as follows: <br /> <br /> (4.1) New buildings in the Port Norfolk Historic District <br />may be erected only on lots or parcels which conform to the <br />following schedule:. <br /> <br />Building Type <br /> <br />Minimum Lot <br />Size in <br />Square Feet <br /> <br />Single family/duplex ................ <br /> <br />5,600 <br /> <br />Three dwelling units ................ <br /> <br />8,400 <br /> <br />Four dwelling units ................. <br /> <br />11,200 <br /> <br />One (1) additional Unit permitted for each 5,600 square feet. <br /> <br />2. That S40-102 (B) (10) be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br /> (10) Conversions in Port Norfolk Historic District and <br />Park View Historic District under Historic Residential HR <br />Zoining: It is the purpose and intent of this provision to <br />encourage a more efficient use of the area's existing stock <br />of large single-family dwellings, to provide economic support <br />for resident families of limited income, and to protect <br />and preserve property values while preserving the unique <br />architecture of these structures. <br /> <br /> To promote the objectives of this section and of the <br />comprehensive plan and zoning chapter of the City Code, the <br />following specific standards are set forth for conversions. <br /> <br /> (a) Location on the lot: A conversion may be in the <br />principal dwelling structure, provided such structure existed <br />in Port Norfolk prior to April 26, 1983, and in Park View <br />prior to April 1, 1984, and conforms with the other require- <br />ments of this s~ctlon. <br /> <br /> <br />
