<br /> 23-110, 23-147, 23-205, 23-229, 23-233, 23-237, 23-249,
<br /> 23-352, 23-365, 23-386, 23-469, 23-480, 23-520, 23-526, 23-
<br /> 527 BY REPEALING SECTIONS 23-95 THROUGH 23-98, AND BY ADDING
<br /> SECTIONS 23-21.1, 23-66.1, AND 23-482, ~ND By AMENDING SECTION'
<br /> 23-36 (c) PERTAINING TO .MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC..

<br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Couhcil of the City of Portsmouth,
<br /> 1. That Sections 23-1, 23-1.1, 23-4, 23-21, 23-22,
<br />23-66, 23v88, 23-105 (b), 23-105 (c); 23=110· 23-147, 23-205,
<br />23-229, 23-233, 23-237, 23-249, 23~352, 23-365, 23-386, 23-
<br />469, 23-480, 23-520, 23-526, and 23-527 be amended and
<br />reordained to read as follows:
<br />
<br />Section 23-1. Definitions.
<br /> The words and phrases used in this Chapter shall, for
<br /> the purposes of this Chapter, have the meanings respectively
<br /> ascribed to them in Section 46.1-1 of Chapter 1 of Title.
<br /> 46.1 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, except in
<br /> those instances where the context clearly indicates a different
<br /> meaning.
<br /> Section 23-1.1- Penalties for violations of motor vehicle and traffic laws of this Chapter.
<br /> Unless otherwise stated, a violation of any of the pro-
<br /> visions'of this Chapter shall constitute a traffic infraction
<br /> punishable by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars
<br /> ($100.00).
<br /> Section 23-4. Emergency vehicles granted, certain, privileges..
<br /> (a) The operator of (.1) any law-enforcement vehicle
<br /> operated by or under the direction of a federal, state, or local
<br /> law-enforcement officer in the chase or apprehension Of-
<br /> a ors of the law or persons charged with or suspected of
<br /> ~iol t ...... :~ ..... ~se to an emergency Call, (2)
<br /> any such Violation, oi ~* ~v~
<br /> -any vehicle used for the purpose of fighting fire, including
<br /> publicly owned state forest warden vehicles not to exceed
<br /> two hundred in number, when traveling in response to a fire
<br /> alarm or emergency' call, (3) any vehicle owned by a political
<br /> subdivision of the commonwealth for rescue purposes when
<br /> traveling in response to a fire alarm or an emergency call,
<br /> or (4) any ambulance or rescue or life-saving vehicle designed
