AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 35 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, AS AMENDED, BY ADDING THERETO <br />SECTION 35-57.1, PERTAINING TO BIENNIAL APPLICATION FOR TAX <br />EXEMPTION. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia,: <br /> <br /> 1. That Chapter 35 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended by adding thereto <br />~35-57.1, such section to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 35-57.1. Application for exemption by tax exempt <br /> bodies. <br /> <br /> Every entity, except the Commonwealth, any political <br />subdivision of the Commonwealth, or the United States, which <br />owns real property exempt from taxation pursuant to Chapter <br />36 of Title 58.1 of the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, <br />after receiving sixty (60) days' written notice, shall file <br />biennially an application on forms supplied by the City <br />Assessor as a requirement for retention of the exempt status <br />of the property. Such application shall show the ownership <br />and usage of such property, and shall De filed within the <br />next sixty (60) days preceding the year for which such <br />exemption, or the retention thereof, is sought. <br /> <br /> 2.
