AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 38-34 (a), (c), AND <br />(d), 38-43, AND 38-77 (a), (f), AND (g), PERTAINING TO <br />WATER RATES, TERMINATION OF SERVICE FEES AND STRONG WASTE <br />CHARGES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that Sections 38-34 (a), (c), and <br />(d), 38-43 and 38-77 (a), (f), and (g) of the Code of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Section 38-34. Meter Rates for Water Supply. <br /> <br /> (a) For all water which passes through the meters, <br />the consumers within the corporate limits of the City of <br />Portsmouth shall pay a rate of one dollar thirty cents <br />($1.30) Der one thousand (1000) gallons, or, ninety-seven <br />and twenty-four one hundredths cents ($0.9724) per one <br />hundred (100) cubic feet of water supplied. <br /> <br /> (c) For all water which passes through the meters to <br />the City of Suffolk pursuant to contract, the City of <br />Suffolk shall pay one dollar nineteen and sixteen one <br />hundredths cents ($1.1916) per one thousand (1000) gallons~ <br />or, eighty-nine and thirteen-one hundredths cents ($0.8913) <br />per one hundred (100) cubic feet of water supplied. <br /> <br /> (d) The rates prescribed herein shall be reflected in <br />all bills rendered after July 1, 1986. <br /> <br />Section 38-43. <br /> <br />Who May Turn Water Back On; Fee For <br />Turning On Upon Termination Of ~ervice <br />For Non-Payment;Inspection Fee When <br />Water Is Turned On By Unauthorized Person. <br /> <br /> When water services to premises has been shut off by <br />the Department of Public Utilities, no one except a <br />representative of the Department of Public Utilities may <br />turn the water on again. When the water service to a <br />premises has been shut off at the meter cutoff valve for <br />non-payment, the amount due and a fee of ten dollars <br />($10.00) for turning on shall be paid before the water <br />service will be restored; provided that, in the event that <br />water service to premises has been turned on by an <br />unauthorized person, there shall be an inspection fee of <br />ten dollars ($10.00) to cover the cost of the requisite <br />inspections. Such fees shall not apply to shouting off <br />water service at the tap cutoff valve, but the provisions <br />of 938-48 (d) shall govern. When a person applies for <br />initial water service there shall be a fee of ten dollars <br />($10.00) charged for establishing a new account and turning <br />on water at the new residence.
