(30) days from the day he brings such dog or cat into the <br />city, if such dog or cat is to be kept in the City more <br />than thirty (30) days. <br /> <br />Section 4-68. <br /> <br />Impoundment of unvaccinated dogs or cats~ <br />redemption, disposal. <br /> <br /> Any dog or cat over six (6) months old found within <br />the limits of the city without evidence that such dog or <br />cat has been vaccinated or inoculated in accordance with <br />the provisions of this chapter shall be impounded by the <br />animal warden, any police officer, or other authcrized <br />person for a period not exceeding seven (7) days ~uring <br />which time such dog or cat may be returned to its owner <br />upon proof of ownership, vaccination or inoculation of the <br />dog or cat, payment by such owner of the cost of keeping <br />such dog or cat at the rate of three ($3.00) dollars for <br />the first day, and one ($1.00) dollar for each additional <br />day or any part thereof, together with the payment of any <br />fines lawfully assessed against such owner under the <br />provisions of this chapter. At the expiration of said <br />seven (7) day period, any dog or cat not so claimed by its <br />owner may be disposed of by giving it into the custody of <br />any person who would pay for the cost of impounding such <br />dog or cat and the vaccination or inoculation thereof. If <br />any such dog or cat is not so disposed of, such dog or cat <br />shall become the property of the Portsmouth Humane Society, <br />Inc. and may be humanely disposed of. <br /> <br /> 2. That Chapter 4 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended by adding thereto <br />Section 4-69, to ~ead as follows: <br /> <br />Section 4-69. Concealing or harborin~ animal to prevent <br /> its destruction or confinement. <br /> <br /> It shall be unlawful for any person to conceal or <br />harbor any dog, cat or other animal to keep the same from <br />being destroyed or confined in accordance with this <br />Chapter. <br /> <br /> 3. That this ordinance shall take effect from the <br />date of its adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held April 28, 1987. <br /> <br /> <br />
