AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />vIRGINIA, 1973, AS AMENDED, BY AMENDING SECTION 4-37 <br />THEREOF PERTAINING TO DOG LICENSES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 4-37 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />to <br /> <br />Section 4-37. When Tax Payable. <br /> <br /> The following license tax shall be the only license <br />tax on dogs in the City: <br /> <br /> (a) For each dog, whether it is male, female or <br />unsexed, for the period of one calendar year ...... $5.00. <br /> <br /> (b) For each dog, whether it is male, female, or <br />unsexed, for the period of two calendar years ..... $10.00. <br /> <br /> (c) For each dog, whether it is male, female, or <br />unsexed, for the period of three calendar years. .$15.00. <br /> <br /> (d) Kennel for twenty dogs, for the period of one <br />calendar year. $30.00. <br /> <br /> (e) Kennel for fifty dogs, for the period of one <br />calendar year . $50.00. <br /> <br /> No license tax shall be levied on any dog that is <br />trained and served as a guide dog for a blind person or <br />that is trained and serves as a hearing dog for a deaf or <br />hearing-impaired person. <br /> <br /> Notwithstanding subsections (a) through (e) above, the <br />tax paid makes the license issued pursuant to this <br />division effective only as long as the period of time for <br />which the license is obtained does not exceed the period <br />that the rabies inoculation is effective as certified by <br />a veterinarian. <br /> <br /> 2.
