1987-51 <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 29 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 29-14, 29-15, 29-16, <br />AND 29-17 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO THE AUXILIARY POLICE <br />FORCE. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City <br />Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 29-14, 29-15, 29-16 and 29-17 of the <br />Code of the City of Portsmouth, 1973, be amended to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Section 29-14. Appointment of members. <br /> <br /> The city manager shall appoint as auxiliary policemen <br />as many persons of good character as he shall deem <br />necessary, not to exceed one hundred (100), and their <br />appointment shall be revocable at any time by the city <br />manager. <br /> <br />Section 29-15. Authority of city manager to prescribe <br /> uniform, organization and regulations. <br /> <br /> The city manager shall have the authority to prescribe <br />the uniform, organization and such rules and regulations as <br />he shall deem necessary for the operation of the auxiliary <br />police force. <br /> <br />Section 29-16. When members may be called into service. <br /> <br /> A. The city manager may call into service such <br />auxiliary policemen as may be deemed necessary: <br /> <br />(1) In time of public emergency. <br />(2) At such times as there are an insufficient <br /> number of regular policemen to preserve the <br /> peace, safety and good order of the <br /> community. <br />(3) At any time for the purpose of training such <br /> auxiliary policemen. <br /> <br /> B. The chief of police may call into service members <br />of the auxiliary police force who have been trained in <br />accordance with the provisions of section 15.1-159.2 B of <br />the Code of Virginia, 1950, as amended, in order to aid and <br />assist regular police officers in the performance of their <br />duties. <br /> <br /> <br />
