117 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A <br />POLICE MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT WITH THE CITY OF SUFFOLK. <br /> <br /> Whereas, Virginia law authorizes local governments <br />to enter into reciprocal agreements for mutual aid and <br />for cooperation in the furnishing of police services; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, the cities of Portsmouth and Suffolk have <br />determined that the provision of police mutual aid to <br />cross jurisdictional lines will increase their ability to <br />preserve and protect public safety and welfare; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, it is mutually beneficial to the said <br />jurisdictions to enter into an agreement concerning <br />mutual aid and cooperation with regards to law <br />enforcement; and <br /> <br /> Whereas, said agreement will also be favorably <br />considered in regard to state certification of the local <br />police departments. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, <br />and hereby is, authorized to enter into a Police Mutual <br />Aid Agreement with the City of Suffolk for the purpose of <br />providing assistance in law enforcement matters as made <br />from time to time be requested. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held December 8, 1987. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
