9~ <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REITERATING THE OPPOSITION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH TO THE RELOCATION OF PORTSMOUTH GENERAL <br />HOSPITAL TO A LOCATION OUTSIDE THE BOUNDARIES OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, by a Resolution dated September 8, 1987, the <br />Council of the City of Portsmouth expressed its concern to the <br />proposed relocation of Portsmouth General Hospital to a <br />location outside the boundaries of the City of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council, through the efforts of its members <br />and its staff, have obtained additional information regarding <br />the dilemma facing the Portsmouth General Hospital Board of <br />Directors and the alternatives available to confront such <br />dilemma; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council is of the opinion that the <br />Portsmouth General Hospital Medical Facility is a vital <br />community asset which must be protected; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council is of the belief that the members of <br />the Portsmouth General Hospital Board of Directors are <br />dedicated, sincere and honorable citizens of this community <br />and have acted, and will continue to act, in an exemplary <br />manner to assure the interest of the citizens of this City are <br />protected. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth reiterates its opposition to the relocation <br />of Portsmouth General Hospital to a location outside the <br />boundaries of this City and calls upon the members of the <br />Portsmouth General Hospital Board of Directors to limit their <br />consideration of alternatives to those which will assure the <br />retention of Portsmouth General Hospital as a vital community <br />asset for the citizens of this City and to remove from their <br />requirements any artificial time constraints which would limit <br />the alternatives that may be considered. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this Council <br />pledge their time and efforts to assist the Board of Directors <br />in resolving the dilemma confronting them in a manner <br />acceptable to the citizens of this City and emphasize their <br />commitment to taking whatever steps are necessary to prevent <br />the devastating impact upon the City that would occur should <br />the Hospital cease to exist as a vital community asset. <br /> <br /> <br />
