85 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE SCHOOL BOARD OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH TO PROVIDE A PROGRAM OF INSTRUCTION ON ACQUIRED <br />IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME (AIDS). <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) has <br />become a national health problem; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, seven cases of AIDS have been identified in <br />Portsmouth, ~esulting in the death of five individuals; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, education of the citizens of the community is an <br />essential factor in preventing this disease. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the School Board of the City of <br />Portsmouth is hereby requested to provide a program of <br />instruction on Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she <br />hereby is, directed to forward a copy of this ~esolution to <br />the Chairman of the School Board and Superintendent of the <br />Portsmouth Public Schools. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held August 11, 1987. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />Cfty Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
