AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTION 23-470, PERTAINING TO <br />MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE TAXES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That ~23-470 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, 1973, be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 23-470. Tax on vehicles designed and used for <br /> transportation of passengers - Schedule. <br /> <br /> The annual license tax for motor vehicles, trailers and <br />semi-trailers, designed and used for the transportation of <br />passengers upon the streets of the city shall be as follows: <br /> <br /> (a) Twenty-three dollars ($23.00) for each private <br />passenger car or motor home if the passenger car or motor home <br />weighs four thousand (4,000) pounds or less and twenty-eight <br />dollars ($28.00) for each passenger car or motor home which <br />weighs in excess of four thousand (4,000) pounds provided such <br />passenger car or motor home is not used for the transportation <br />of passengers for compensation and is not kept or used for <br />rent or for hire, or is not operated under a lease without a <br />driver. <br /> <br /> (b) Thirty cents ($0.30) per one hundred (100) pounds of <br />weight or major fraction thereof for a private motor vehicle <br />other than a motorcycle with a normal seating capacity of more <br />than ten (10) adult persons including the driver if such <br />private motor vehicle is not used for the transportation of <br />passengers for compensation and is not kept or used for rent <br />or for hire or is not operated under a lease without a <br />driver. In no case shall the fee be less than twenty-three <br />dollars s23.00) if the vehicle weighs four thousand (4,000) <br />pounds or less or twenty-eight dollars (s28.00) if the vehicle <br />weighs in excess of four thousand (4,000) pounds. <br /> <br /> (c) Thirty cents ($0.30) per one hundred (100) pounds of <br />weight or major fraction thereof for a school bus, public or <br />private; provided that in no case shall the fee be less than <br />twenty-three dollars (S23.00) if the vehicle weighs four <br />thousand (4000) pounds or less or twenty-eight dollars <br />($28.00) if the vehicle weighs in excess of four thousand <br />(4,000) pounds. <br /> <br /> (d) Twenty-three dollars ($23.00) for each trailer or <br />semi-trailer designed for use as living quarters for human <br />beings. <br /> <br /> (e) Thirteen dollars ($13.00 in addition to eighty <br />cents ($0.80) per one hundred (100 pounds of weight or major <br /> <br /> <br />
