AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 31-148 (b); 31-155 (b); <br />31-201 (CREDITABLE SERVICE); 31-262 (b); AND 31-268 (b) <br />PERTAINING TO THE PORTSMOUTH FIRE AND POLICE RETIREMENT SYSTEM <br />AND THE PORTSMOUTH SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT SYSTEM, TO PROVIDE <br />FOR CREDITABLE SERVICE AFTER AGE 65. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 31-148 (b) of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 31-148 (b). Service retirement. <br /> <br /> The provisions of Subsection (a) of this section to the <br />contrary notwithstanding, any member remainIng in service <br />after his normal retirement date who attains seventy (70) <br />years of age shall be retired Eorthwith. <br /> <br /> 2. That Section 31-155 (b) of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth be repealed. <br /> <br /> 3. That Section <br />Portsmouth pertaining <br />be amended to read as <br /> <br />31-201 of the Code of the City of <br />to the definition of creditable service <br />follows: <br /> <br />Section 31-201. Definitions. (Creditable service) <br /> <br /> The term "creditable service" shall be taken to mean f~r <br />any member~ the most recent period of continuous service as an <br />employee rendered by the member plus membership service for <br />which credit is allowed under this chapter; provided, however, <br />that periods before and after periods of unpaid authorized <br />leave shall be included as creditable service but the period <br />of leave itselE shall not be credited as creditable service. <br />In addition, under regular service retirement and <br />excluding deferred or vested retirement, one-third (1/3) of <br />unused sick leave as of the effective date of retirement shall <br />be added to creditable service. <br /> <br /> 4. That Section 31-262 (b) of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />
