YARD, FRONT. A yard extending across the full width of the <br />zone lot adjoining the street upon which the zone 1ct <br />fronts. <br /> <br />YARD, REAR. A yard e~tending across the full width of the <br />plot adjoining the rear plot line. <br /> <br />YARD, SIDE. A yard adjacent to the side zone lot line <br />extending from the front yard to the rear yard. <br /> <br />33-3 PURPOSE <br /> <br />This Chapter is adopted pursuant to the terms and provisions <br />of Virginia Code Sections 15.1-465, et seq. (1950, as <br />amended). The purpose of this Chapter is to provide for the <br />harmonious and economic development of the City of <br />Portsmouth: for the orderly subdivision of land and its <br />development; for the orderly development of the ~eneral area <br />surrounding such subdivision; for the coordination of streets <br />within such subdivision with other existing or planned <br />streets within the general areas for adequate provisions for <br />drainage, flood C~ntrol, light, air and other public <br />purposes; for the adequate and proper installation of <br />streets, drainage~ sanitary sewers, water and other utilities <br />and facilities; fox the dedication to the City of land for <br />streets, alleys or other public purposss or the trmnsfer ~o <br />the City of easements or other rights or privileges; and for <br />the ~eservation for the City of land to be acquired for <br />public facilities. <br /> <br />33--4 APPLICABILITY <br /> <br />Any owner of any tmact of land. any condominium or <br />conversion condominium, which is located within the <br /> <br />office of the clerk of the circuit court of the <br />with the requirements of this Chapte~ except that <br /> <br />~nORTSMOUTH SUBDIVISION ORDINANCE --- PAGE 5 <br /> <br /> <br />
