59 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AND DIRECTING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF PARTICIPATION IN THE GOVERNOR'S EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY INITIATIVE PROCUREMENT AND FINANCING PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the City Council of recognizes the need to expand learning through technology to students in the and the City of Portsmouth experiences now available Portsmouth Public Schools, WHEREAS, the Portsmouth School Board is eligible for approximately $205,500.00 in subsidized technological equipment through the Governor's Educational Technology Initiative Procurement and Financing Program, and WHEREAS, the Governor's Educational Technology Initiative Procurement and Financing Program provides a vehicle for the purchase and financing of microcomDuters, satellite and associated equipment at a substantial savings to participating localities, and WHEREAS, the Portsmouth School Boamd has requested the approval of the City Council to participate in this program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth that it does hereby authorize the City Manager to sign the Memorandum of Agreement between the City and the Department of Education authorizing participation in the Governor's Educational Technology Initiative Procurement and Financing Program for the purchase and financing of approximately S205,500.00 of subsidy eligible equipment, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that authorized and directed to transmit the Department of Education. the City Manager is hereby the Letter of Agreement to at Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, a meeting held September 27, 1988.
