27 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOUTH WITH INCIDENTS OR ACTS WHICH ARE OFFENSIVE TO <br />THIS COUNCIL AND THE CITIZENS OF THIS COMMUNITY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has prided itself with <br />being recognized as a community of racial and religious <br />harmony and understanding; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth was recently confronted <br />with a cross burning incident in the yard of one of its <br />residents; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, even though it was an isolated incident, such <br />incidents and acts within the boundaries of this City are <br />unacceptable to this Council and the citizens of this City. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth denounces the malicious acts of a few which <br />tend to disrupt the quality of life of the citizens of this <br />City and calls upon the citizens of this City to likewise <br />denounce these acts and to send a message throughout the <br />community that the citizens of this City will not tolerate <br />acts of this nature. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held March 28, 1989. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
