AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH,
<br />VIRGINIA, 1988, BY AMENDING SECTION 7-5 (7) AND (14), ARTICLE
<br />II, SECTIONS 7-32 (a) AND (b) AND ADDING SECTION (c), SECTION
<br />7-33 (a) AND (b) AND ADDING SECTION (c), 7-34 (a) AND (b) AND
<br />ADDING SECTION (c), 7-35 (a) AND (b) AND ADDING SECTION (c),
<br />7-63 (1) AND (2), 7-65, 7-67 (1)(2) AND (4), ~68, 7-69, 7-70,
<br />7-71, 7-73, 7-103, 7-105.1, 7-131, 7-132(a)(2)a., 7-133
<br />(a)(5)(6), 7-136 (1)(2)(3), AND 7-138 (1)(2)(3) AND BY
<br />REPEALING SECTIONS 7-67(3), 7-68 (1) THROUGH (4), AND 7-72,
<br />THEREOF, PERTAINING TO BUILDINGS AND BUILDING REGULATIONS.
<br />
<br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth,
<br />Virginia:
<br />
<br /> i. That Section 7-5 (7) and (14) of the Code of the City
<br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, be amended to read as follows:
<br />
<br />Section 7-5. Special Requirements for housing for the
<br />elderly. _~'.~
<br /> (7) All bathroom doors and doors to habitable rooms
<br />shall have a 32" minimum clear opening.
<br />
<br /> (14) Ail buildings of three (3) or more stories shall
<br />contain elevators for interior access to all floors, such
<br />elevators to be in compliance with the American National
<br />Standards Institute standards.
<br />
<br />2. That Article II be amended to read as follows:
<br />
<br />ARTICLE II. DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING INSPECTIONS.

<br />(Note: This deletes the asterisk and the cross reference to
<br />public works.) ~

<br /> 3. That Sections 7-32 (a) and (b), 7-33 (a) and (b),
<br />7-34 (a) and (b), 7-35 (a) and (b), 7-63 (1) and (2), 7-65,
<br />7-6711)(2)(4), 7-68, 7-69, 7-70, 7-71, 7-73, 7-103, 7-105.1,
<br />7-131, 7-132(a)(2)a., 7-133 (a)(5)(6), 7-136 (1)(2)(3), and
<br />7-138 (1)(2)(3), be amended and Sections 7-32 (c), 7-33 (c),
<br />7-34 (c), 7-35 (c) be added to read as follows:
<br />
<br />Section 7-32. Division of building inspection.
<br />
<br /> (a) The division of building inspection of the
<br />department of building inspections shall be supervised by the
<br />chief building inspector, who shall have such assistants as
<br />may, from time to time, be authorized by the city manager and
<br />appointed by the building official.
<br />
<br /> (b) The chief building inspector shall have any
<br />combination equivalent to five (5) years of experience in the
<br />
