of Nurserymen. Ail trees shall be balled and burlapped or container-grown. (b) Ail trees shall be installed in accordance with the most recent edition of the road and bridge specifications of the Virginia Department of Transportation and as further described in the most recent edition of the "Landscape Planting and Protection Manual, Portsmouth, Virginia". (c) The owner of the property shall be responsible for the continued proper maintenance of all trees on located on the property. Where trees are installed in accordance with Section 36-52(1), it shall be the responsibility of the owner of the lot to maintain the trees. The trees must be maintained, alive, for a period of one year. If any of the trees dies during the first year after planting, it must be replaced by the owner. (10) Trees to be retained on the lot in accordance with the approved landscape plan shall be protected utilizing methods in the mos= recent edition of "Landscape Planting and Protection Manual, Portsmouth, Virginia". (a) Trees or tree areas that are to be retained shall be marked visibly in the field prior to clearing or construction by use of one of the methods specified in the "Landscape Planting and Protection Manual, Portsmouth, Virginia" (b) Protection devices shall be installed prior to clearing or construction and shall be shown on the submitted landscape plan. Such devices shall be evident and effective and shall be maintained at all times. Failur~to maintain such devices shall be cause for the issuance of a stop work order. Construction personnel shall be notified of the purpose and presence of the protection devices. (c) If it becomes necessary subsequent to clearing to remove additional trees which were shown on the approved plan to be retained, such trees may be removed if compliance with the required canopy coverage and all other requirements of this chapter are maintained and a revised landscape plan is approved.
