48 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE BY-LAWS OF THE COUNCIL OF AMERICAN <br />MARITIME MUSEUMS TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THE COLLECTION <br />MANAGEMENT POLICY OF THE PORTSMOUTH MUSEUMS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of American Maritime Museums has <br />formally requested endorsement of their By-Laws concerning the <br />collection of objects from underwater archaeology sites, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth through its Museums <br />Department may from time to time collect objects from <br />underwater archaeology sites, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />desires to encourage the preservation of underwater <br />archaeological remains in a manner consistent with acceptable <br />archaeological and museum standards, <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth accepts and endorses the By-Law provisions <br />established by the Council of American Maritime Museums and <br />will insure that acceptable language prohibiting the <br />collection of undocumented maritime archaeological materials <br />included in its collection policy. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held June 26, 1990. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
