10 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on the 21st day of January, 1990, death brought <br />to a close the active life of Mr. James A. Overton, a resident <br />of Portsmouth; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, James A. Overton served the City of Portsmouth <br />and its citizens with distinction as an educator, a prominent <br />attorney and an honored municipal judge; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, he gave generouslyP his time and energy for the <br />interest of the citizens of the City by becoming a dominate <br />leader in civic activities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the stature he attained in the community by his <br />exemplary life and monur~ental achievements were well <br />recognized during his ~fetime; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the community has suffered a great loss in the <br />passing of James A. Overton and join with his family, friends, <br />and associates in mourning his death. <br /> <br /> THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that the sympathy of this body, acting <br />for the citizens of this City be and hereby is extended to the <br />family of the late James A. Overton. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread <br />upon the Minutes of the Council, and that a copy thereof be <br />presented to his family in recognition of his service and <br />respected stature in this community. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held February 13, 1990. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
