78 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO A <br />POLICE MUTUAL AID AGREEMENT WITH THE CITIES OF CHESAPEAKE, <br />H~PTON, NEWPORT NEWS, NORFOLK, PORTSMOUTH, SUFFOLK AND <br />VIRGINIA BEACH, AND THE COUNTY OF JAMES CITY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Virginia law authorizes local governments <br />enter into reciprocal agreements for mutual aid and for <br />cooperation in the furnishing of policy services; and <br /> <br />to <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, <br />Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach, and the <br />County of James City have determined that the provision of <br />police mutual aid to cross jurisdictional lines will increase <br />their ability to preserve and protect public safety and <br />welfare; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is mutually beneficial to the said <br />jurisdictions to enter into an agreement concerning <br />and cooperation in regard to law enforcement; and <br /> <br />mutual aid <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said agreement will also be favorably considered <br />in re~ard to State certification of the local police <br />departments. <br /> <br /> HOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and he <br />hereby is, authorized to enter into a police mutual aid <br />agreement with the Cities of Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport <br />News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach, and the <br />County of James City for~the purpose of providing assistance <br />in law enforcement matters as may from time to time be <br />requested. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held October 23, 1990. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
