69 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZINH THE CITY MANAGER TO SEEK RELIEF FOR <br />THE VICTIMS OF THE AUGUST 24, 1990 FLOODING. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, on August 24, 1990, there occurred a disaster in <br />the City of Portsmouth in that certain residences and <br />businesses in the City were extensively damaged by flooding as <br />a result of a severe rainstorm; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, because of that disaster, there exist numerous <br />citizens and businesses in the City who may be qualified for <br />relief under various federal and state disaster relief <br />programs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth is <br />committed to assisting, in every manner possible, the <br />obtaining of such relief by its residents and corporate <br />citizens. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that there is hereby declared a state <br />of local emergency as a result of the disastrous rainstorm of <br />August 24, 1990; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is hereby <br />authorized and directed to take all appropriate actions, <br />including the filing of applications and requests for disaster <br />area designation and relief, in order to obtain the most <br />expeditious and complete relief possible for the victims of <br />the August 24th flooding. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on September 18, 1990. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
