36 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE APPLICATION OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH FOR AWARD OF A GRANT UNDER THE AMERICA THE <br />BEAUTIFUL URBAN AND COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION PROGRAM OF THE <br />VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Forestry currently <br />administers the America the Beautiful Urban and Community <br />Grant Program, which provides funding for tree installation <br />in urban settings and accompanying educational programs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City's Department of Engineering has filed <br />an application for a grant under said Program; and <br /> <br /> %~EREAS, the City of Portsmouth has determined that the <br />site of the new Churchland High School will provide an <br />excellent opportunity to continue its tree appreciation <br />program and to establish a fundamental training program in the <br />selection and care of trees for the students and faculty of <br />that facility; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, in addition, all of the citizens of the City <br />will share in the environmental, educational, and <br />beautification benefits of this Program upon award of a <br />Program grant. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby endorses the purposes of <br />the America the Beautiful Urban and Community Grant Program by <br />supporting the application for funding submitted on behalf of <br />the City of Portsmouth, and agrees to undertake the <br />fulfillment of all ~f the Grann's 'r~quirements should the City <br />receive such award. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be, and she <br />hereby is, directed to forward a copy of this Resolution to <br />the Virginia Department of Forestry for inclusion as part of <br />the City's Grant Proposal Application under the Program. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on June 25, 1991. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
