AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 9 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1988, BY AMENDING SECTION 9-31 THEREOF, <br />PERTAINING TO CEMETERIES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> t. That Section 9-31 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, as amended, be amended to read <br />follows: <br /> <br />as <br /> <br />Section 9-31. <br /> <br />Record of sales of lots; transfer of <br />ownership. <br /> <br /> The person in charge of a city cemetery shall keep <br />suitable books and record therein the sale of all lots, half <br />lots or spaces sold, with the date of sale, price received <br />therefor, the number of the lot or designation of the half lot <br />or space, and the name of the purchaser. In case of transfer <br />of ownership, a proper entry shall be made thereof, and the <br />lot, half lot or space again registered in the name of the new <br />owner. Such person shall make a good faith effort to ensure, <br />prior to interment, that the ownership of the cemetery lot is <br />vested in the decedent's estate or that permission for the <br />interment has been granted by the person holding such <br />ownership. <br /> <br /> e <br /> <br />1991. <br /> <br />That this ordinance shall take effect on July 1, <br /> <br /> Adopted by the~ouncil of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a mee~i~ng held on June 25, 1991. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
