Section 30-151. Definitions. <br /> <br />Creditable Service. The term "creditable service" means for <br />any member the most recent period of continuous service as an <br />employee rendered by the member plus membership service for <br />which credit is allowed under this Article; provided, however, <br />that periods before and after periods of unpaid authorized <br />leave shall be included as creditable service but the period <br />of leave itself shall not be credited as creditable service. <br />In addition, under regular service retirement and excluding <br />deferred or vested retirement, one-half of unused sick leave <br />as of the effective date of retirement, shall be added to <br />creditable service. <br /> <br /> 4. That Sections 30-236(a), (b) and (c) of the Code of <br />the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, be amended to read as <br />follows: <br /> <br />Section 30-236. Service retirement. <br /> <br /> (a) Any member in service who has attained the age of <br />fifty (50) and who has attained the number of years of <br />creditable service required for entitlemen~ to benefits under <br />the vesting provisions of this section or has completed <br />twenty (20) years of creditable service may retire at any time <br />then or thereafter, upon written notification to the board, <br />made by the member or his employer, setting forth at what time <br />the retirement is to become effective; provided that such <br />effective date shall be after his last day of service, but <br />shall not be more than ninety (90) days prior to or subsequent <br />to the filing of such notice. <br /> <br /> (b) The provisions of subsection (a) of this section to <br />the contrary notwithstanding, after June 30, 1992 any member <br />remaining in service after his normal retirement date who <br />attains sixty-two (62) years of age shall be retired <br />forthwith. <br /> <br /> (c) Any member who terminates service as an employee <br />prior to retirement and who complies with one of the <br />requirements set forth in (1), (2), (3), (4), or (5) below, <br />and who has attained the age of sixty (60), may retire at any <br />time then or thereafter under the provisions of subsection (a) <br />of this section: <br /> <br /> (5) Membership began after June 30, 1991, and <br />termination occurred after the completion of five (5) <br />creditable service. <br /> <br />years of <br /> <br /> 5. That Sections 30-237(b), (c) and (d) of the Code of <br />the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, be amended and that <br />Section 30-237(e) be ordained, all to read as follows: <br /> <br /> <br />
