ARTICLE II. DEFINITIONS <br /> <br />See. 40-21. Construction. <br /> <br /> Unless othenwise expressly stated, or unless the context clearly indicates a <br />different meaning; the following words and phrases shall for the purposes of this <br />Chapter have the meanings indicated. When used in this Chapter, the present tense <br />includes the future and the singular includes the plural. The word "shall" is <br />mandatory not directory. When used in this Chapter, words of one gender include <br />both genders as may be applicable. Words not defined herein shall be construed to <br />have their common, ordinary meanings unles s the context clearly otherwise requires. <br /> <br />Sec. 40-22. Specific Definitions. <br /> <br />ADVERTISING DISPLAY AREA. The advertising display surface area of a sign, as <br />computed in accordance with Section 40-61.4. <br /> <br />ADULT DAY CARE CENTER. Any facility providing care to a group of four (4) or <br />more adults separated from their families during a part of the day on a regular basis. <br /> <br />ALLEY. A minor way designed to give vehicular access to the side or rear of <br />properties whose principal frontage is on another street. <br /> <br /> BED AND BREAKFAST INN. A residential dwelling built fifty (50) or more years <br />ago or of historic significance which offers lodging to transient paying guests and <br />which may offer breakfast to these guests. <br /> <br /> BUILDING. Any structure enclosed and isolated by exterior walls constructed or <br />used for residence, business, industry or other public or private purposes, or <br />accessory thereto, and ir, cluding tents, trailers, free-standing billboards and signs, <br />fences and similar structures whether stationary or movable. <br /> <br /> BUILDING, ACCESSORY. A subordinate building, the use of which is clearly <br />incidental to and customarily found in connection with that of a principal building on <br />the same zone lot. <br /> <br /> BUILDING OFFICIAL. That person designated as the building official, chief <br />building official, or other principal administrative officer under the building code in <br />effect at any given time. <br /> <br /> BUILDING, PRINCIPAL. A building in which is conducted the principal use of the <br />zone lot on which it is situated. In any residential district any structure containing <br />a dwelling unit shall be deemed to be the principal building on the zone lot on which <br />the same is situated. <br /> <br /> BUILDING SETBACK LINE. A line separated from the front property line by the <br />distance of the applicable front yard setback, as determined from this Chapter. If <br />the front property line is straight, the building setback line is a line parallel to the <br />front property line; if the front property line is curved, the building setback line <br />is a line parallel to any tangent to the front property line; if the front property line <br /> <br /> <br />
