AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 22 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1988, BY AMENDING SECTIONS 22-1, 22-2, <br />22-182(d), 22-348[a), 22-391, 22-392(10), 22-423, 22-426(a) <br />AND (b), AND 22-582Ia) THEREOF, BY ENACTING SECTION 22-398.1 <br />AND BY REPEALING SECTION 22-144 THEREOF, PERTAINING TO MOTOR <br />VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC. ~ <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Sections 22-1, 22r2, 22-182[d), 22-348(a~, <br />22-391, 22-392110), 22-423, 22-426[a) and (b), and 22-582(a) <br />of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, be <br />amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 22-1. <br /> <br />Definitions. <br /> <br /> The words and phrases used in this chapter shall, for the <br />purposes of this chapter, have the meanings respectively <br />ascribed to them in Section 46.2-100 of the Code of Virginia <br />as in effect on July 1, 1992, except in those instances where <br />the context clearly indicates a different meaning. <br /> <br />Section 22-2. <br /> <br />General penalty for violations of chapter. <br /> <br /> Unless otherwise provided, a violation of any of the <br />provisions of this chapter shall constitute a traffic <br />infraction punIshable by a fine of not more than two hundred <br />dollars ($200.00). <br /> <br />Section 22-182. Other permissible and required lights. <br /> <br /> (d) The following vehicles may be equipped with <br />flashing, blinking, or alternating amber warning lights of <br />types approved by the superintendent of the state police: <br /> <br />(1) Vehicles used for the principal purpose of towing or <br /> servicing disabled vehicles; <br /> <br />(2) <br /> <br />(3) <br /> <br />Vehicles used in constructing, maintazntng, and <br />repairing highways or utilities on or along public <br />highways; <br /> <br />Vehicles used for the principal pdrpose of removing <br />hazardous or polluting substances from state waters <br />and drainage areas on or along public highways; <br /> <br />(4) <br /> <br />Vehicles used for servicing automatic teller <br />machines, provided the amber lights are not lit <br />while the vehicle is in motion; <br /> <br />(5) Vehicles used by individuals for emergency <br /> snow-removal purposes; <br /> <br /> <br />
