33 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CONCERN OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, AND ITS OPPOSITION TO THE RELOCATION <br />· OF THE VIRGINIA EMPLOYMENT OFFICE FROM THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH <br /> TO THE CAMPUS OF THE TIDEWATER COMMUNITY COLLEGE IN SUFFOLK, <br /> VIRGINIA. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Virginia Employment Commission has announced <br />its intention to relocate its Portsmouth office from its <br />centralized location in the City of Portsmouth at 3116 South <br />Street, Portsmouth, Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this relocation proposes to assist Virginia <br />Employment Commission clients by being, located on the campus <br />of the Tidewater Community College, in Suffolk, Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this relocation will have a detrimental effect <br />on citizens of the City of Portsmouth, many of whom are <br />dependent on convenient public transportation and who benefit <br />from the centralized location of the Virginia Employment <br />Commission's Office at 3116 South Street, Portsmouth, <br />Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the citizens of Portsmouth and employers whose <br />businesses are in the City of Portsmouth will be <br />inconvenienced by the additional travel time that will be <br />encountered due to this relocation; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />has considered all such matters and the impact that this <br />relocation will have on this urban community in these <br />economically stressed times. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby expresses its concern <br />about the effect that the relocation will have on its citizens <br />and makes its opposition to this relocation known herewith and <br />asks the Commission to maintain an office and a presence <br />within our city limits. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held March 24, 1992. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
