AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 24 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1988, BY ADDING THERETO SECTION <br />24-253 PERTAINING TO MISCELLANEOUS OFFENSES. <br /> <br /> 1. That Chapter 24 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, 1988, be amended and reordained <br />adding Section 24-253 thereto to read as follows: <br /> <br />by <br /> <br />Section 24-253. Disorderly conduct in public places. <br /> <br /> It shall be unlawful for any person who is standing, <br />lying, or sitting in a public park, playground or public <br />street in the City to possess any open container the contents <br />of which includes an alcoholic beverage. Any person violating <br />the provisions of this section shall be ~uilty of a class 4 <br />misdemeanor. <br /> <br /> This prohibition will not apply to those persons who are <br />in public areas designated by the City of Portsmouth where the <br />possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages has been <br />authorized by the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Board, <br />or its successor in interest if any. <br /> <br /> 2. That this ordinance shall take effect on <br />June 22, 1993. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council for the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia~ at a meeting held June 22, 1993. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
