AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA (1988), BY AMENDING SECTIONS 38-40(a), 38-48(b), <br />38-83, AND 38-94(b), THEREOF, PERTAINING TO METER CHARGES AND <br />RATES FOR WATER SUPPLIED. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 38-40{a) of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia (1988), be amended and reordained to read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />Section 38-40. <br /> <br />Charges for and ownership and maintenance of <br />water connections. <br /> <br /> (a) Whenever application is made pursuant to section <br />38-89 for the installation of a new water service connection <br />within the city or within the Suffolk service area, the <br />applicant shall make the payment hereinafter specified. The <br />size and location of any such water service connection shall <br />be determined by the director. Such payment or deposit shall <br />cover the following services, materials and labor: Installing <br />the water service connection between the water main and meter, <br />shutoff valve at the meter, outlet fitting on the meter or <br />master meter, meter box and meter, all of which shall be owned <br />and thereafter maintained by the department of public <br />utilities. <br /> <br />(1) For the following sizes of service connection the <br />indicated charge shall be paid in advance: <br /> <br />3/4-inch service <br /> <br />$500.00 <br /> <br />1-inch service <br /> <br />1 1/2-inch service <br /> connection <br /> <br />$750.00 <br /> <br />Actual cost of such <br />installation + 25% <br />(minimum $900.00). <br /> <br />2-inch service <br />connection <br /> <br />Actual cost of such <br />installation + 25% <br />(minimum $1,500.00} . <br /> <br />(2) For the following sizes of service connection the <br />indicated charge shall be paid in advance: <br /> <br />4-inch service <br />connection <br /> <br />Actual cost of such <br />installation + 25% <br />(minimum $2,900.00). <br /> <br />6-inch service <br />connection <br /> <br />Actual cost of such <br />installation + 25% <br />(minimum $4,000.00). <br /> <br /> <br />
