Such lights on other vehicles shall be lit only when <br />performing the functions which qualify them to be equipped with <br />such lights. , <br /> <br /> (e) Hzgh-mntensmty flashing, blinking or alternating amber <br />warning lights, Visible for at least five hundred (500) feet, <br />of types approved by the superintendent of state police, shall <br />also be requiredlfor use on any vehicle which is engaged in <br />either escorting~ or towing Over-dimensional materials, <br />equipment, boats~ or manufactured housing units by authority of <br />highway hauling Permit pursuant to Section 46.2-1139 of the <br />Code of Virginia~ Such lights shall be mounted on the top of <br />the escort and t~w vehicles and on the upper rear end of the <br />overdimensional vehmcles or loads for maximum visibility, front <br />and rear. Howevgr, a vehicle operating under a permit issued <br />pursuant to Section 46.2-1139 of the Code of Virginia shall be <br />deemed to be in compliance with the requirements of this <br />subsection if itlis accompanied by escort vehicles. The <br />provisions of this subsection shall apply to vehicles or loads <br />which are eitherimore than twelve (12) feet wide or more than <br />seventy-five (75! feet long. <br /> <br /> (f) A member of any fire department, volunteer fire <br />company or volunteer rescue squad may equip one (1) vehicle <br />owned by the member with not more than two (2) flashing or <br />steady burning r~d or red and white emergency warning lights of <br />a type approved bY the superintendent, for use by members only <br />in answering emergency calls. <br /> <br /> (g) The provisions of this section limiting interior <br />lights to no mor~ than fifteen (15) candlepower shall not apply <br />to alternating, ~linking or flashing colored emergency lights <br />moUnted inside law enforcement motor vehicles which may <br />otherwise legall~ be equipped with such colored emergency <br />lights or to flashing shielded red or red and white lights, <br />authormzed underithms section, mounted inside vehicles owned by <br />members of volunteer fire companies, volunteer rescue squads or <br />owned or used bylprofessional fire fighters. <br /> <br /> (h) Unless ~uch lighting devices is both covered and <br />unlit, no motor ~ehicle which is equipped with any lighting <br />device other tha~ lights required or permitted in this division <br />or title 46.2 ofithe Code of Virginia, required or approved by <br />the superintendent of state police or required by the federal <br />department of transportatmon shall be operated on any highway <br />in the city. Nothing in this subsection shall be construed to <br />permit any vehicle not otherwise authorized to be equipped with <br />colored emergency lights, whether blinking or steady burning. <br /> <br /> <br />
