AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION 7-96 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988), PERTAINING TO BUILDINGS AND BUILDING REGULATIONS AND TO AMEND SECTION 17-22(a) OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988), PERTAINING TO HOUSING A~D COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: 1. That Section 7-96 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988), be amended and reordained to read as follows: Sec. 7-96. Adopted. There is hereby adopted !by the city for the purpose of establishing rules and regulations for the construction, alteration, repair, removal, idemolition, equipment, use and occupancy of buildings and s~ructures, including permits and penalties, that certain code iknown as the "Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, Voldme 1, New Construction Code", and the accumulative supplements Ithereto and the amendments thereto, save and except such portions as are hereinafter amended or deleted, as permitted in the enabling legislation, and building regulations ado~ted and promulgated pursuant thereto, and the same are hereby adopted and referred to herein as the building code of the qlty as fully as if set out at length herein, and the provisions thereof shall be controlling within the corporate limits %f the city. 17 22 of th~ Code of the Cit of P r' ~ 2.
