shall be no less than three and three-tenths (3.3) feet (1.14 <br />meters) nor more than nineteen and seven-tenths (19.7) feet (6 <br />meters) from another main outlet nor more than sixteen and <br />four-tenths (16.4) feet (5.98) meters from a pool wall. <br /> <br /> (b) A main outlet opening shall be covered with a grating <br />which is not hazardous to bathers, is secured in place, and is <br />removable with tools. The grate opening area shall be large <br />enough to have water entrance velocities not exceeding two (2) <br />feet per second (0.6 meter per second). <br /> <br />Sec. 34-18. Operational safety. <br /> <br />(a) Pumps, filters and other mechanical and electrical <br />equipment for public pools shall be enclosed in such a manner <br />accessible only to authorized persons. Construction and <br />drainage shall be such as to avoid the entrance and <br />accumulation of water in the vicinity of the electrical <br />equipment. <br /> <br /> (b) The crossing of outdoor public swimming pools by <br />overhead electrical conductors is prohibited. <br /> <br /> (c) Ail metal barriers or railings on which a broken <br />electrical conductor might fall shall be effectively grounded. <br /> <br /> (d) Ail lighting fixtures shall be prohibited directly <br />above the water surface except as permitted by the Virginia <br />Uniform Statewide Building Code, and shall be protected in a <br />manner which will prevent broken glass from falling on any <br />surface within the pool area. Ail electrical switches and <br />receptacles shall be of weatherproof construction and resistant <br />to corrosion. <br /> <br />(e) Lights shall be Prohibited directly above or within <br /> <br />one <br /> <br /> (1) meter horizontally of the pool rim in any indoor or <br />covered swimming pool except as permitted in the Virginia <br />Uniform Statewide Building Code. <br /> <br />Sec. 34-19.
