The grades assigned in the Alphabetical Listing of Job Titles <br />designate~the salary range for each position with due respect to <br />1) the salary ranges for other classes, 2) the relative dif- <br />ficulty, responsibility, and characteristic duties of positions <br />in the class, 3) the minimum qualifications required, 4) the <br />prevailing rate paid for similar employmenu outside the City, and <br />5) any other factors that may properly be considered to have a <br />bearin§ upon uhe fairness or adequacy of the range. <br /> <br />The Salary Schedule shall conEaln a series of salary ranges, each <br />range having a minimum, middle/market rate, and maximum salary. <br /> <br />The CompensationPlan shall be governed by the following <br />policies: <br /> <br />a. Salary Increases for 1996-97 <br /> <br />Salaries for employees will be increased by the fixed dollar <br />amoun~ as shown in Sec. 10IA): Salary Increases by Grade. <br />No employee's salary will be increased beyond the maximum <br />range of their grade. <br /> <br />b. Salary Schedule Adjustments <br /> <br />Effective July 1, 1996, each grade range of the salary <br />schedule will be increased by 2.6%. Refer 5o Sec. 10(B). <br /> <br />c. New EmDloyees <br /> <br />Ail new employees are probationary for one year from their <br />original hire date and shall receive compensauion according <br />to the classification in which they are placed. No employee <br />shall remain in a probationary suatus for more than one year. <br />Upon completion of one year of service, the employee will be <br />removed from probationary status or terminated. <br /> <br />No employee shall be hired at a raue above the minimum range <br />of the classification without the written approval of the <br />City Manager or his designee. Requests for ~exceptions must <br />be mncluded on the Employee Selection Review Form for <br />positions covered under Administrative Policy Directive #18, <br />entitled Employee Selection Review Procedure, and on the <br />referral form for positions nou designated under that <br />directive. <br /> <br />d. Promotions <br /> <br />When an employee is promoted uo a Classification one grade <br />higher than the present classification, the employee will <br />receive an increase of 5% of the currenu salary.
