AN OP~DINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988} BY AMENDING SECTIONS 2-111 (a) (9) <br />~ (b) THEREOF, PERTAINING TO LEGAL HOLIDAYS. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of 5he'City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That subsections (a) (9) and (b) of Section 2-111 of <br />the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) be amended <br />and reordained co read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-111. Legal holidays. <br /> <br /> (a) The following days are designated as legal holidays <br />for all full-time regular employees of the city, except <br />policemen and firefighters and those engaged in such employment <br />as necessarily requires their daily services and for all state <br />officers performing duties for the city: <br /> <br />(1)-(8)... <br /> <br /> (9) The afternoon of the twenty-fourth day of December <br />(or the day before the holiday of Christmas Day is observed <br />herein): Christmas Eve, beginning at 1:00 p.m. <br /> <br />(lo)... <br /> <br /> (b) Whenever any of the aforesaid holidays shall fall on <br />a Saturday, it shall be observed on the preceding Friday, and <br />whenever it shall fall on a Sunday, it shall be observed on the <br />following Monday. If a holiday shall fall on a Sunday and the <br />next day is also a holiday, then the holiday shall be observed <br />as designated by the city manager. No other holidays shall be <br />observed by either state employees partly engaged in city work <br />or by city employees except when special occasions are <br />authorized by the city manager. <br /> <br />1995. <br /> <br />That this ordinance shall take effect on April 1, <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on March 28, 1995. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
