AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 38 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTION 38-40 (a) (1) <br />THEREOF, PERTAINING TO WATER, SEWERS AND SEWAGE DISPOSAL. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 38-40(a) (1) be amended and reordained to <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 38-40. Charges for ownership and maintenance <br /> ' of water connections. <br /> <br /> (a) Whenever application is made pursuant to section <br />38-89 for the installation of a new water service connection <br />within the City or within the Suffolk service area, the <br />applicant shall make the payment hereinafter specified. The <br />size and location of any such water service connection shall be <br />determined by the director. Such payment or deposit shall <br />cover the following services, materials and labor: Installing <br />the water service connection between the water main and meter, <br />shutoff valve at the meter, outlet fitting on the meter or <br />master meter, meter box and meter, all of which shall be owned <br />and thereafter maintained by the department of public <br />utilities. Except that in new residential development <br />requiring the installation of 3/4 inch services, upon the <br />approval of the director and incorporation of the work into the <br />development's bond and warranty, the developer may perform, <br />provide and install the following services, materials and labor <br />in accordance with departmental and city standards: Install <br />the water service connection between the water main and meter, <br />shutoff valve at the meter, outlet fitting on the meter, meter <br />box (meter to be furnished/installed by the department), and <br />roadway subbase, base and pavement installation/restoration all <br />of which shall be maintained by the developer until acceptance <br />of the development by the City and then shall be owned and <br />thereafter maintained by the department of public utilities. <br /> <br /> (1) For the following sizes of service connection, the <br />indicated charge shall be paid in advance: <br /> <br />3/4-inch service [connection] <br /> <br />$500.00 <br /> <br />3/4-inch service (connection), <br />developer-installed with <br />meter installation by department <br /> <br />$200.00 <br /> <br /> <br />
