86 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF VIRGINIA TO <br />AMEND THE PORTSMOUTH CITY CHARTER TO PROVIDE FOR ELECTION OF <br />SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AT LARGE. <br /> <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, <br />did at its October 24, 1995 meeting approve a resolution <br />calling for at-large election of members of the Portsmouth <br />School Board and requesting preclearance of this change from <br />the United States Deparument of Justice; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS it is also necessary for the General Assembly of <br />Virginla to amend the City Charter in order for this change to <br />be effected; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Attorney is directed to <br />draft a bill so amending the City Charter and to transmit it <br />forthwith to the members of the Portsmouth delegation to the <br />General Assembly for timely submission to the Virginla Division <br />of Legislative Services. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on November 28, 1995. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br /> <br /> City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
