84 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR A PROPOSED RECONNAISSANCE <br />STUDY BY THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS IN <br />THE ELIZABETH RIVER. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Corps of Engmneers has proposed to fund and <br />the Commonwealth of Virginia has endorsed Phase One of a <br />reconnaissance study of the environmental conditions in the <br />Elizabeth River; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the proposed study will focus on the <br />identification of envlronmental and other interrelated <br />activities needed to improve the condition of the Elizabeth <br />River; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Elizabeth River is an important economic and <br />recreational asset, not just to the City of Portsmouth, but to <br />the entire Hampton Roads region. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia, hereby expresses its strong <br />support for the goals of the proposed study and for Phase One, <br />in particular. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby <br />directed to forward copies of this Resolution to the Corps of <br />Engineers and to the Secretary of Natural Resources for the <br />Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, at a meeting held on November 14, 1995. <br /> <br /> Teste: <br /> <br /> <br /> City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
