AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 22 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, BY AMENDING SECTION 22 -74 THEREOF, <br />PERTAINING TO MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE TAXES. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 22-74 of the Code of the City OF <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 22-74 Tax on vehicles designed and used for <br />transportation of passengers-Schedule. <br /> <br /> (a) The annual license tax for motor vehicles, trailers <br />and semitrailers designed and used for the transportation of <br />passengers upon streets of the city shall be as follows: <br /> <br /> (1) Twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for each <br /> private passenger car or motor home if the <br /> passenger car or motor home weighs four thousand <br /> pounds or less and thirty dollars ($30.00) for <br /> each passenger car or motor home which weighs in <br /> excess of four thousand pounds; provided, such <br /> passenger car or motor home is not used for the <br /> transportation of passengers for compensation <br /> and is not kept or used for rent or for hire, or <br /> is not operated under a lease without a driver. <br /> <br /> (2) Thirty cents ($0.30) per one hundred (100) <br /> pounds of weight or major fraction thereof for a <br /> private motor vehicle other than a motorcycle <br /> with a normal seating capacity of more than ten <br /> adult persons including the driver if such <br /> private motor vehicle is not used for the <br /> transportation of passengers for compensation <br /> and is not kept or used for rent or for hire or <br /> is not operated under a lease without a driver. <br /> In no case shall the fee be less than <br /> twenty-five dollars ($25.00) if the vehicle <br /> weighs four thousand pounds or less or <br /> thirty dollars ($30.00) if the vehicle weighs in <br /> excess of four thousand pounds. <br /> <br /> (3) Thirty cents ($0.30) per one hundred pounds <br /> of weight or major fraction thereof for a school <br /> bus, public or private; provided that in no case <br /> shall the fee be less than twenty-five dollars <br /> ($25.00) if the vehicle weighs four thousand <br /> pounds or less or thirty dollars ($30.00)if the <br /> vehicle weighs in excess of four thousand <br /> pounds. <br /> <br /> <br />
