AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE. CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTION 2-479 THEREOF, <br />PERTAINING TO THE DIRECTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. <br /> <br /> BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 2-479 of the Code of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) be amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-479. Powers and duties of director. <br /> <br /> Subject to the control and supervision of the city manager <br />and subject to the provisions of this Code and other ordinances <br />of the city, the director of economic development shall be <br />charged with the following duties and responsibilities: <br /> <br /> (1) General management and control of the department of <br /> economic development; <br /> <br /> (2) Development of an overall economic development <br /> strategy for the city; <br /> <br /> (3) Development and implementation of marketing programs <br /> for commercial/industrial sites, including active <br /> solicitation of national and international business <br /> concerns; <br /> <br /> (4) Development and implementation of tourism programs; <br /> <br /> (5) Serving as executive director for the Portsmouth <br /> Industrial Development Authority and the Portsmouth <br /> Port and Industrial Commission; <br /> <br /> (6) Serving as central point of contact and clearinghouse <br /> for investors interested in developing and <br /> coordinating opportunities in the city; <br /> <br /> (7) Assembling sites for development in coordination with <br /> private property owners and other governmental <br /> agencies; <br /> <br /> (8) Planning, coordinating and directing industrial, <br /> commercial and tourism advertising programs; <br /> <br /> (9) Such other powers and duties as may be assigned to <br /> the department of economic development by the city <br /> manager. <br /> <br /> <br />
