R-98-39 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION'S PROJECT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE MARTIN LUTHER KING FREEWAY EXTENSION IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, APPROVING THE PROPOSED LOCATION AND DESIGN FEATURES OF THE SAID INTERCHANGE, REQUESTING THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO ACQUIRE ALL NECESSARY RIGHT-OF-WAY, AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF ALL NECESSARY UTILITY AGREEMENTS. WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation is proceeding with the Martin Luther King Freeway Extension and the City of Portsmouth is supporting the implementation of this improvement, and; WHEREAS, a Design Public Hearing was held for the purpose of presenting plans to and receiving comments from the public, and; WHEREAS, representatives from the City of Portsmouth were present and participated in said hearing, and; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that it supports the Virginia Department of Transportation's project for the improvement of the Martin Luther King Freeway Extension, a distance of approximately 0.7 miles in length and designated as Project No. 0058-124-F04-PE-101, RW-201, C-501; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia hereby approves the major design features of the Martin Luther King Freeway as identified at the public hearing on June 24, 1998 with the minor design changes as a result therefore, and; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Portsmouth requests the Virginia Department of Transportation to acquire all rights-of-way necessary for the project in the name of the Commonwealth of Virginia at the appropriate time, and;
