Promotions - Sworn Police and Fire Employees <br /> <br /> The following percemages will be used for computing salary <br /> increases at the time of promotion for sworn Police and Fire <br /> Employees: <br /> <br /> Police Officer to Sergeant/Firefighter to Lieutenant 10% <br /> Police Sergeant to Lieutenant/Lieutenant to Captain 15% <br /> Police Lieutenant to Captain/Captain to Battalion Chief 10% <br /> <br />g. Demotions <br /> <br /> An employee involuntarily or voluntarily demoted to a lower grade <br /> shall receive compensation according to the grade into which the <br /> employee is placed. The Director of Human Resource Management <br /> will designate the salary with final approval of the City Manager or <br /> his designee. An employee will not retain the same compensation that <br /> was received prior to the demotion, or be compensated at a rate less <br /> than the minimum salary for the grade to which demoted, nor may the <br /> maximum compensation for the position be exceeded. <br /> <br />h. Transfers <br /> <br /> "Transfer" shall mean lateral re-assignment of an employee from one <br /> class to the same class, or to another position of the same grade. <br /> Such transfer may occur within or between departments. Any <br /> employee transferred to another class of employment shall receive the <br /> same compensation as received prior to the transfer. The transfer <br /> activity may not be used to increase or decrease the salary of the <br /> transferred employee. Prior approval of the Deparunent Heads <br /> involved and the Director of Human Resource Management is <br /> required for transfers between departments. <br /> <br /> <br />
