c. Public Safety - Sworn Personnel <br /> <br /> Effective January 1, 2000, Police Lieutenants and Captains will <br /> receive a 3% increase. Effective April 1, 2000, Police Officers and <br /> Sergeants will receive a 3% increase on base salary. <br /> <br /> Effective July 1, 1999, Police Officers and Sergeants will be paid for <br /> overtime incurred. <br /> <br /> Effective January 1, 2000, all Firefighter ranks will receive a 3% <br /> increase. <br /> <br /> New sworn Fire and Police Personnel will be hired at the minimum <br /> rate as a trainee unless they have been approved otherwise due to <br /> previously obtained certification. <br /> <br /> An emploee's base salary may not be less than the minimum or more <br /> than the maximum for the position. <br /> <br />d. New Employees <br /> <br /> All newly hired employees will be considered probationary for the <br /> first 12 months of employment. <br /> <br /> Employees should be hired at the minimum range of the pay grade <br /> classification. Requests to hire above the minimum will be evaluated <br /> on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the Human Resource <br /> Management Department. <br /> <br />e. Promotions - General Employees <br /> <br /> When an employee is promoted to a classification one grade higher <br /> than the present classification, the employee will receive an increase <br /> of 5% of the current salary. If the promotion is two or more grades <br /> above the former classification, the employee will receive an increase <br /> of 10% of the former salary. An employee's base salary may not be <br /> less than the minimum nor more than the maximum for the grade to <br /> which promoted. Special circumstances may be reviewed with HRM <br /> <br /> <br />
