AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 2 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA (1988) BY AMENDING SECTION 2-790 THEREOF <br />PERTAINING TO THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMUNITY CRIMINAL <br />JUSTICE BOARD. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia: <br /> <br /> 1. That Section 2-790 of the Code of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia (1988) <br />be amended and reordained to read as follows: <br /> <br />Sec. 2-790. Community criminal justice board. <br /> <br /> There is hereby established by the city council a board to be known as the <br />community criminal justice board. The appointments to the board shall be made by the <br />city council. The board shall not exceed eighteen members and shall be composed of the <br />following members: a judge of the general district court; a circuit court judge; a juvenile <br />and domestic relations district court judge; the chief magistrate; a member from the city <br />council or the city manager or a deputy city manager appointed by the city council; the chief of <br />police; an attorney for the commonwealth; a public defender and/or an attorney who is <br />experienced in the defense of criminal matters; the sheriff; the superintendent of the <br />Hampton Roads Regional Jail; a local educator, a behavioral healthcare services advisory <br />board administrator, and up to six citizens of the city. The board shall possess the powers <br />and duties granted to it by § 53-180, et seq., of the Code of Virginia, as amended. <br /> <br />2. That this ordinance shall take effect on the date of its adoption. <br /> <br /> Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held on <br />June 12, 2001. <br /> <br />Teste: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
