June 9. 2009 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 there were present: Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor William E. Moody, Jr., Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., Stephen E. Heretick, Elizabeth M. Psi mas, City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 09 - 309 - The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6th Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2009 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 09 - 310 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. 30 Day Progress Review and Update from Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services - Fire Chief Don Horton! Fire Marshall Mike Stockton 2. U.S.S. Zuni! U.S.C.G. Tamaroa - Paul Holt, Deputy City Manager 09 - 311 - Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 (A) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss: Under subsection 5, a new prospective business or business expansion which has been previously announced, and Under subsection 1, a personnel matter. The subjects are economic development and appointments to boards and commissions. The purpose of the meeting is to permit confidential discussion of negotiating strategy and also appointments. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None Motion by Ms. Psi mas, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Whitehurst, Holley Nays: None
