36.2, <br /> <br />September 29 198]. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the legal duty of the staff of the State Corporation Commission to study <br />and make rate recommendations to the State Corporation Commission; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it is the legal duty of the State Corporation Commission to fix fair and just <br />rates for public utilities. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that <br />the Council expresses its concern over the repeated requests for increased rates by public <br />utilities, including C g P, serving the City of Portsmouth and the consumer/citiznes of the <br />City in that such rate increases impose unreasonable burdens upon the City and its citizens. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council requests the Attorney General and the staff of <br />the State Corporation Commission to study the requests for increased rates by public utilitiel <br />including C g P, and to represent the interest of the consumer'citizens of the City of Ports- <br />mouth and the Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council requests the State Corporation Commission to weig <br />the increased financial hardships placed upon the consumer citizens of the City of Portsmouth <br />and the City itself during the deliberation upon such request. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to forward this resolution to <br />the proper officials and the City Attorney is directed to monitor the rate hearings in order <br />to assure that the concern of the City Council of the City of Portsmouth is brought to the <br />attention of the State Corporation Commission." <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Beamer~ Gray, Webb, Whitlow, Johansen <br /> Nays: None <br /> City Manager <br /> 81-363 - Motion of Mr~ Whitlow and seconded by Mr. ~ray, to look into the grass and <br />weeds growing in the State~mreas-- so the interstate and tunnel approaches and all the other <br />entrances ~o our city might be beautified to the best e~te~t possible, and was adopted unani~ <br />mous vote. <br /> <br /> 81-364 Vice Mayor Beamer asked the City Manager to take under advisement the matter <br />concerning the Westhaven Community Center and a report be furnished. <br /> <br />On motion meeting adjourned. <br />APPROVED <br /> <br /> <br />
